Timelapse video of the Aurora Borealis above ESRANGE, Kiruna, Sweden, on 3rd November 2015.

Each photo was a 10s exposure. The video is then played at 10x speed, with each photo blending into the next. Considering this was the first time I’d tried to photograph the phenomenon, I’m pleased with the result. (Suggestions of a better way to get a smooth result are welcome.)

Esrange Space Center (short form Esrange) is a rocket range and research center located outside the town of Kiruna in northern Sweden. It is a base for scientific research with high altitude balloons, investigation of the aurora borealis, sounding rocket launches, and satellite tracking, among other things. Located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle and surrounded by a vast wilderness, its geographic location is ideal for many of these purposes.
